Where a notes app is genuinely good
A good notes app is an excellent, trustworthy container. It captures anything — a sentence, a photo, a whole document — exactly as you put it in, with no interpretation and no opinion about what it means. It searches fast, organises into notebooks or tags however you like, and in many cases works completely offline with nothing leaving your device at all. For anything you want to write once and retrieve later on your own terms, a notes app is the right, simple tool, and Mneva is not trying to replace it.
Where the two are different
That same simplicity is the limit. A note sits exactly where you left it until you open the app and go looking. It does not know that the thing you wrote three weeks ago — "ask about the loan before the renewal date" — has a moment attached to it, and it will not tell you when that moment arrives unless you separately set a reminder, which turns one small act of writing into two.
Mneva's position is that an open loop wants to be found, not just storable. What Mneva keeps, it keeps as a thread in your own words — not summarised, not filed into a folder you have to remember the name of — and it comes back to you at the moment that makes sense: when the date is close, when the decision's deadline is real, when you mention the person the promise was for. An honest limit
Mneva is not a general-purpose notes tool and does not try to be — it does not hold arbitrary files, images, or long-form documents, and what you write into it is kept for 400 days from when it was written, not forever. If what you want is a permanent, private, offline archive of everything you jot down, a dedicated notes app does that better.
